Where Our Turkeys Come From

We take special care to ensure that our turkeys are only of the highest quality—which is why we source them locally, from a farm in eastern Pennsylvania. There, in a red barn set atop verdant green hills, passionate family farmers rely on generations-old practices to raise healthy, all-natural turkeys good enough to bear the Citarella name.

In larger, more industrial farming practices, overproduction of turkeys can create a lot of waste. Rainwater often carries this waste into local waterways, which can be problematic for surrounding communities. Choosing poultry from a small local production using sustainable farming practices means less runoff, less environmental impact, and healthier, happier communities.

In addition to giving the turkeys room to roam, the farm we partner with has animal welfare specialists on staff to guarantee that their birds are raised in an environment that’s safe and healthy. These specialists monitor details like coop temperatures and ventilation, and also assess the quality of the turkeys' bedding. Ethical farming practices and better living conditions mean healthier, higher-quality birds.

It’s Better for You
Birds absorb the flavors of their food, so better feed leads to better flavor. Our turkeys are raised without antibiotics, growth hormones, artificial additives, or by-products added to their feed. We believe animals are best when raised the old-fashioned way: on a wholesome, all-vegetable diet that’s high in vitamins, minerals, and amino acids. Combined with their freedom to roam the farm and exercise naturally, these birds are well cared for, healthy, and, as a result, naturally delicious.
