Q:  Where do your fish come from?

Citarella sources fresh seafood globally through our relationships with generations of fishermen. They come straight from the Fulton Fish Market into the hands of our expert fishmongers in our nearby facility. For more information about our logistics, check out our Freshness page!

Q:  Will my food stay fresh? How is my order shipped?

Your order is hand selected by our fishmongers, cleaned, dressed and carefully wrapped in wax paper and plastic. We carefully package your fresh items in an insulated box, together with cold packs right in our refrigerated facility. Our cold packs are reusable! Just throw them in the freezer for a picnic day.

The package is then shipped FedEx priority overnight so the items get to you in peak condition. Once it is shipped, we will email you a confirmation with a tracking number to keep an eye on your order. Our sturdy packaging has been tested extensively, and will keep your order fresh for the duration of shipment.

FedEx Priority Overnight requires signature on delivery. Please arrange for someone to receive the order when it arrives. Refrigerate items immediately to maintain freshness. Your order is guaranteed to arrive by 10:30AM. For more storage and preparation tips, please consult our guide.

Q:  I live close to your store…is there delivery?

Lucky you!

We offer delivery in the NYC area. Our delivery fee is $10 when you’re in the store, or $6 calling in for personal shopping.

Personal shopping is available in all of our stores, along with catering services. Our friendly customer service staff will shop your order.

Q:  Will you ship to a PO Box?

No. A person must be at the address to refrigerate the perishables when they arrive. This will ensure the best flavor!

Q:  What are your shipping delivery days?

Shipping orders via Fed Ex can be taken every day. Deliveries are made Tuesday - Saturday. For Saturday delivery, there will be a $25 additional charge. During the holiday season, we may experience high volume, so check our website for updated order deadlines.

Q:  Do you ship on national holidays?

Fed Ex does not deliver on national holidays. We can ship your order to arrive close to a holiday, but not on the holiday. To make sure your friends and family receive your thoughtful gift on time, please consider shipping your order on the days prior to the holiday. Customer service can assist you in selecting the best day you can ship.

Q:  Do you ship internationally?

Sorry! Continental US only.

Q:  How much am I paying for shipping?

Your shipping cost is based on the destination, weight of the total order, and box dimensions, in as few packages as possible. We have allowed for the weight of cold packs and other packing materials as well. We’ve conducted vigorous testing to maintain the freshness and quality while offering the best shipping value.

Q: Why does my shipping invoice have a lower cost than my initial order summary?

We only charge you for weights of items at the time your order has been put together.

What does this mean? Because everything here is fresh from the market, hand selected and cut for you, the actual weights of your order will differ from our website’s first estimate.

That larger estimate is not charged. Instead, that approves our smaller actual charge, which you can confirm on the invoice you will receive with the shipping confirmation.

Q:  I want my seafood! How do I pay?

We accept Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express. For more details, please visit our shipping policy page.

Q:  What is your privacy policy?

Your personal information is safe with Citarella. We’ve been in the business over a hundred years, and we value our customers’ privacy. We never share your information. We use Symantec (formerly VeriSign) to secure your payment details against third parties.

Q:  What if there is a problem with my order?

If the product arrives damaged, or if you have any other issues with your order, please contact us immediately at help@citarella.com or 212-874-0383. Save all boxes and packing materials and keep the product refrigerated if appropriate. Photos would be helpful in resolving any problems. Do NOT send it back to us- our customer service staff will work with you until you are 100% satisfied.

Q:  I loved your seafood, but I’d like to ship your other delicious gourmet cuisine as well. Can I add them to my order?

Thank you for your patronage! Our online selection is only a small part of the Citarella experience, and we do ship other items on a regular basis.

If you have your eye on a particular seasonal cheese or our silky olive oils, please contact our customer service by phone to arrange your order. Our day-to-day stock changes with the foods available in the season, so check back often.

Q:  How much fish or seafood should I buy?

We recommend the following:

Whole Fish - 3/4 to 1 lbs of raw fish per person.
Fillets and Steaks - 8-10 ounces raw weight per person.
Seafood - 8-10 ounces per person.
Cooked Mussels and Clams - 3-6 pieces for appetizer or 8-12 pieces as main course.
Raw Oysters and Clams - 6 or 12 pieces as an appetizer.
Shrimp - 3 pieces for appetizer or 6 as main course.
