Citarella Opens Gourmet Market In Harlem First Specialty Food Purveyor Of Its Kind In Harlem Neighborhood NEW YORK CITY (May 18, 2005) -- On June 2, 2005, Citarella, the ultimate gourmet market, will open its sixth store, located in the heart of Harlem at 461 West 125th Street, between Amsterdam and Morningside Avenues. The 5,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art store is housed in a building owned and fully renovated by Citarella, which is adding great food and new jobs to the neighborhood -- a testament to Harlem and its burgeoning business, cultural and social center.
“We are excited to be opening our newest Citarella store on 125th Street at a time when there is so much pride and new development in the Harlem community,” enthusiastically comments Citarella owner Joe Gurrera. “Now the neighborhood and nearby residents can shop for the highest quality prime meats and seafood, freshest produce, an abundant selection of cheese, charcuterie, prepared foods, pastries and a variety of specialty products close to where they work and live.”
All of the celebrated Citarella care and attention to detail will be found at the new Harlem store – from providing the highest quality food products for a great value to courteous and friendly service. Special orders, delivery, take-out and customer-friendly hours will be available daily from this favorite New York food institution, situated just one block west of the historic Apollo Theater.
In 1983, Joe Gurrera opened the first Citarella store, a pristine fish and seafood haven on Manhattan's Upper Westside. Now 22 years later and 50 blocks uptown, he has again personally supervised the building renovation, including the restoration of the original brick walls, layout and outfitting of this gem of a gourmet market where quality, service and customer satisfaction are paramount.
The Harlem Citarella will be open seven days a week. For more information, please call 212-874-0383.
The Gurrera family owns and operates a gourmet food business with six Citarella retail locations, including four in New York City and two in the Hamptons; Citarella To Go;
an 80,000-square-foot commissary and warehouse; and Josephs Citarella, a flagship restaurant at Rockefeller Center.
